Conservation and Refurbishment, Bristol

St. Saviours

Work in historic context

We are experienced in conservation and conversion of historically important buildings. The practice routinely works on Listed buildings.

Recent work includes:-

Surveying and photographic scheduling of features in a grade II* listed convent in Knowle, Bristol, an Arts & Crafts movement design by J D Sedding, and conversion of part of the building into 13 sheltered housing units.

Another new use for an existing building was the award winning conversion of a 19th Century listed town house into offices in Hampton Road, Redland.

We believe solutions should be appropriate to their location and context, and that this does not necessarily mean reproduction of historical features.
The conversion of the old river police station on Bristol's listed quay side is an example of an energy-efficient, modern design in an historic context, and which has recently received a Civic Society award for its contribution to the townscape.

Custom House

Planning and listed building consent is currently being negotiated. This is one of Bristol's historically important grade II* listed buildings. The current builidng replaced an early 18C custom house burnt down in the Bristol riots in 1831. Various occupancies have followed the Customs & Excise move to Avonmouth in 1983.
