Media : The exceptional quality of Bristol's historic and contemporary buildings, and the surrounding varied and beautiful English countryside, provides an excellent base for the production of costume drama, film and television. The BBC has television and radio studios, and HTV also has regional television studios. Around these are grouped film companies, specialists, and production facilities. We have provided architectural services for this industry since the 80's. In addition to this several of our completed buildings have been used in film and television drama episodes, The Riverstation restaurant in 'Casualty', Priors Field, a private house, in 'Afterlife' (ITV). 'The House Race' featured a proto-type town house developed by us for a series by ITV Central. The local press is supportive and both the Evening Post and Western Daily Press have featured our work, for instance the progress of the Youth Centre, Portishead, or awards for the quality of our work. Nationally features have appeared, for instance, in the Architects Journal, and at more popular level in Sunday Times, Ideal Home, and the more technical SelfBuild & Design. Our involvement
in major film studio design paralleled Aardman Animation's success. This
started in Clifton with the conversion of a small warehouse to studios
for Aardman, where a 'Grand Day Out' was made. We went on to convert
Fyfe's old banana warehouse in Gas Ferry Road into their first large film
studios, model workshops and offices. Here 'the Wrong Trousers'
was shot. Aardman's international success lead to the demand for additional
film studios and workshops which were found at Aztec West, just north
of Bristol, where the conversion of an industrial shed provided further
studios. Here the 'the Chicken Run' was made. Our work has also included the design of model making workshops and sound studios, such as the sound studios for Edward Williams (see below) composer of music for 'Life on Earth' (BBC). |
